A Year-Round Odyssey

With two distinct seasons, this abundant landscape is a paradise for nature enthusiasts all year. During the dry season, the annual flood water arrives, reviving the Okavango Delta and enticing animals and birds to bask in the bounty of this pristine aquatic ecosystem. During the dry winter months, you're bound to witness elephants crossing remote islands, glistening views and concentrated animal sightings on the water.

The Okavango Delta bursts with new life and energy in the wet season. Known as the emerald season, a plethora of migratory birds descend from the north on the verdant, green landscape, and herbivores give birth in droves, luring carnivores into the area to hunt and feed. A safari at this time of the year promises dramatic afternoon thunderstorms and balmy evenings, vibrant birdlife, bright night skies for star gazing and rejuvenated landscapes for vivid photographic safaris.

Discovering Africa's Eden in an Ancient Desert

Inscribed as the 1000th UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Okavango Delta stretches over two million hectares across north western Botswana.

Each year, heavy rainfall in Angola’s Planalto Highlands fills the mighty Okavango River, depositing 2.5 trillion liters of fresh water into a network of rivers that flood the ancient Kalahari Desert in a spectacular alluvial fan to create the world’s largest inland delta.

Over 40% of Botswana is designated as national parks and private game reserves, allowing enormous herds of animals to roam freely across its contrasting landscape and follow ancient evolutionary tracks visible from the air.

Evolving from expansive grassy plains to wetlands and slow moving waterways, the Okavango Delta truly is the Earth’s last paradise.

"Swaddled in checkered blankets by the fire with a cocktail in hand, at times Atzaró Okavango can feel worlds apart from the primal landscape surrounding it. That is, until the trumpet of an elephant foraging its way through camp not 10-meters away leaves you staring in awe. This magical place exists as a part of the living environment of the Delta."
